Tour Stalwarts Charge into Fourball Championship Lead2 min read

Posted on: 4th Feb 2014

Moving day at the 2014 Golfbreaks.com Fourball Championship began with heavy frost delays, but that didn’t deter leaders Paul Broadhurst and Robert Coles after an 8-under par 63 on the Lakes Course left them at 12-under (131) for the tournament and one shot ahead of the chasers.

With delays on both of Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Club’s courses, the day began slowly but as the courses warmed up with the Spanish sun so too did the players, with excellent scoring from many across the board.

The PGA of Holland’s Ruiz Fonhof brothers (Xavier and Alain) continued their bogey free assault on the championship, with three birdies out and four birdies in on the Hills course to card a seven-under par 65. The pair lie one shot back from the leaders on -11 (132), completing the final pairing line up for Round 3.

One shot further back in a tie for third place are two pairs both representing the PGA of Italy – Gregory Moteni and Alessandro Tadini, and Andrea Zanini and Alessandro Grammatica – who have carded the same scores in both Rounds 1 and 2, to lie at ten-under par for the tournament (133).

A mention should also go to Great Britain & Ireland’s Craig Shave and Matthew Cort, whose ten-under par 61 was enough to bring them back in to contention at a tie for tenth place on seven-under par and gains them the accolade of low round of the tournament so far.

With the cut mark set at one-under par, 42 pairs made it through to the final round taking place over the Lakes Course at Lumine as the players compete for a share of the €40,000 prize fund.
