The PGAs of Europe were saddened to learn of the passing of Mustafa Koç, Chairman of Koç Holding in Turkey.  The Association’s Member Country PGAs, Officials and Staff’s thoughts are with the whole Koç family and friends.

Koç’s death was announced this morning [Thursday] by Koç Holding on their website indicating he passed away despite all immediate emergency medical care measures taken. Koç was 55 years old.

Koç had a close working relationship with the PGAs of Europe through one of his subsidiary companies, Beko, and the operation of the Beko Classic Pro-Am for 14 years as one of the Association’s Sanctioned Events, having started in 2001 at Kemer Golf & Country Club in Istanbul.

In recognition of Koç’s efforts and passion for the sport of golf in Turkey across a number of decades, the PGAs of Europe presented him with the Association’s coveted Special Recognition Award in 2014.

“Mustafa was a true friend of the PGAs of Europe and a strong supporter of golf in Turkey and the wider world,” said PGAs of Europe Chief Executive, Ian Randell. “His passion for golf meant he was a key influencer in the spread of the game in his home country – without him many of the golf events that take place there would never have happened. He will be sorely missed by his friends at the Association and European Golf as a whole.”
