Past Champions Line Up to Advance on their Beko Classic Titles2 min read

Posted on: 14th Oct 2016

Two-time Beko Classic Pro-Am Champion, Robert Coles, took a step closer to a hat trick of wins at the event, after a second round 64 (-8) propelled him up the leaderboard, but there are plenty of names behind him that are still in the hunt.

The Englishman began the day at two-under par, but swiftly moved to six-under after his second round front-nine.

Birdies at 10, 14 and to close at 17 and 18 enabled him to sign for his 64 and a 10-under par total (134) to sit four shots ahead of his colleagues.

Whilst four shots mat be comfortable to begin with, there is a pack of Professionals just behind at six-under par that could well make a move in the final round.

Two-time major winner, John Daly, shot the second-lowest round of the day with a six-under 66 to move into tied-second and, if successful, could add to his 2014 Beko Classic Pro-Am with another title if he goes low in Round 03.

Another past champion in the hunt is Scotland’s Raymond Russell who did not make as much ground as the others with a one-over par 71, but remains in the hunt to add to his 2010 title with his six-under (138) total.

The third Professional in the mix is England’s David Griffiths – six birdies and five bogeys gave him a one-under second round to also share the second place position

In the team event Opet 2, today led by Professional, Liam Bond (Wales), with amateurs Huseyin Demirag, Nida Cireli and Richard Ozatacan, maintained their position at the top of the leaderboard after an even better 89 points in the second round for a total of 177 points (-33).

Team Opet 1 follow in second place led by John Daly and amateurs, Fikret Ozturk, Mevlut Cavusoglu, and Sabri Yigit. 89 points in the second round give a total of 172 (-28), very much still in with a chance of taking the team honours.
