Preparing to Play

One thing that makes golf such a challenging sport is that there are so many skills to align so that we may reach our personal peak performance. All sports can claim that they have to combine skills and they are quite correct, almost every sport requires physical readiness, application of mental game disciplines, control of emotions, technical prowess and tactical know how.

Amongst the major challenges that golfers face is the blend of skills, the power required to hit a drive, finesse with a wedge and precision with a putter. A round is often made up of 35-50 explosions and a similar number of movements requiring fine motor control over a period which sadly sometimes approaches four or more hours. Preparing the body and the mind for such variety ensures that golfers must carefully plan their diet, hydration, physical preparation and mind for the rigours of the sport.

Learning how to practice is at least as important as knowing what to practice and I recall the adage of the saying, “failing to prepare is preparing to fail”. This section will help you to take the steps needed to play your best all the time.
