Glenmuir and Algarve in Perfect Harmony

Following the conclusion to the PGAs of Europe’s Annual Congress, International Team Championship and Awards Dinner, praise must be given to two very important cogs in the wheel that made the event the success it was - Glenmuir and the Associaçäo Turismo do Algarve.

The unique attraction of Portugal’s golden Algarve coastline for any, and every, golfing occasion was further underlined by the announcement that they are to host the 15th International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), the world’s premier global event for golf tourism suppliers, buyers and media, on November 12-15, 2012.

The IGTM, like the PGAs of Europe’s annual highlight events will draw a global golf gathering to this region that has blended top end accommodation and conference facilities with some of Europe’s finest courses all enriched by a welcoming sunshine climate.

António Pina, President of the Algarve Tourism Board, said: “It is with considerable pride that Portugal, and more specifically the Algarve, will once again host the prestigious International Golf Travel Market.

“With exceptional facilities and an enviable year-round climate, IGTM 2012 provides The Algarve with a significant opportunity to promote the region as a first-class golf destination,” he added.

The Algarve has been a magnet for golfers for over 30 years and boasts spectacular scenery, beautiful coastline, and is home to a selection of the world’s finest golf resorts and luxury hotels, and supported by a wealth of leisure facilities, high-class restaurants and vibrant bars that is now visited by six million visitors each year.

“We would not be able to present many of the events that we do without the support of very strong Partners,” said PGAs of Europe chief executive, Ian Randell. “And this is especially true of the Associaçäo Turismo do Algarve, who have proved to be the perfect host.

“The facilities and comfort that we have enjoyed at the Tivoli Marina Hotel (above) are simply ideal as, indeed, has been everything provided for us by the Algarve Tourist Board. I’m certain the International Golf Travel Market will be as successful as our own activities have been here for the last two years.

“And what can be said about Glenmuir on the other hand, that has not already been said?” Randell added.

“Whether it is Ryder Cups, PGA Cups, Major Championships, or even our own International Team Championship, the Glenmuir brand is likely to be in evidence and we cannot thank them enough for the support they provide, not only to ourselves, but to all of the professional game

“What's more, it is so refreshing that the managing director Colin Mee and European sales Director Graham Hayward are so personally involved in the events that they support.”

While Glenmuir’s range of sunshine wear proved unmatchable once again in clothing players and delegates in the Congress and ITC, they are now giving golfer’s added protection from the cold with the launch of specialist winter golf trousers for men and women.

The Hudson (men, left) and Vivien (women, below) trousers have been specifically designed in a comfortable stretch bonded fabric with snug fleece backing and a water resistant finish on the outer layer.  The technology combines to deliver a stylish and very easy-to-wear trouser that protects from the elements while still allowing plenty of freedom of movement.

Unveiling the new products, Glenmuir marketing director, Brian Mair, said: “The cold and damp are a major factor in reduced performance on the golf course - yet many players wrongly believe their everyday trousers will provide them with adequate warmth in winter.

“With the Hudson and Vivien, golfers can be sure that the very best fabric technology is being used to beat the conditions and give them the optimum chance of keeping a good round going.”

And so, with the ‘Working Together’ philosophy of the PGAs of Europe, and the continued support from Glenmuir and the Associaçäo Turismo do Algarve, the PGAs of Europe Annual Congress and International Team Championship looks set to continue to receive lasting success and praise from all who attend.
