    Employer: Colin Sinclair

This job is a seasonal Golf Operations role from March-October 2017. My general duties include: general shop floor duties, customer care and interaction, booking and checking in golf times, embroidering hats, store room organisation, checking in and sorting deliveries, balancing the tills and any other golf related tasks that may arise throughout the day. Under the supervision of the head professional, I thrive in the customer orientated environment, and take great enjoyment from the constant interaction with customers that is the main premise to this position. As part of a wider team, including different departments and job roles, I learned quickly that to be fully effective in providing a 5 star service, communication is key. In this, I learned that although I had to focus on completing my job effectively, I also had to ensure other members of staff were comfortable, as we were one unit working towards the same goals. I had been a member of this organisation before becoming a member of staff, and having witnessed and been given great customer service throughout, it set the bar for me to carry that on.

    Other Jobs and Experience:

Monifieth Golf Links, Monifieth Starters Box, Princess Street, Monifieth (June 2012-October 2015)
    Employer: Jan Brodie

My duties in this post are general starting duties of a golf course, organisation of tournaments when required, dealing with visitor or members booking requests, taking and directing any questions or complaints that may arise, answering phones and emails, general office work (including the constant use of our computer based booking system). My duties also included dealing with money and till operations both during the working day, and balancing at the end of it. Working both on my own and as part of a larger team in this position was crucial in this position, as maintaining standards set from board members was required while sometimes working alone.
I really enjoy the general office work being mixed with interacting with the public as the main premise of this job. Being a key holder in this position from the start, and being responsible for locking up and balancing the till, I feel my confidence and self-management skills have grown greatly. This was the first job I found myself unsupervised by a superior at all times, and knowing I had responsibilities was very rewarding.

Monifieth Golf Club, 8 Princes Street, Monifieth (February 2016-present)
    Employer: Ray Moir

The main premise of this job is bar and waiter work. Being customer’s first point of call when on shift requires a friendly and welcoming demeanour, as well as being able to not get distracted from tasks in hand. Throughout the working day the main responsibility is to ensure that all customers at the bar are served, as well as taking food orders, serving food, wrapping cutlery, dish washing, cleaning tables, ensuring the bar area is clean and presentable and helping out with anything else that needs attention throughout the day. As this is bar/kitchen work, there is constant cash handling, both from customers and deliveries. As a key holder, at the end of each shift I am responsible for cashing up, operating the safe and ensuring the till balances.

In November/December 2015 I was a supervisor in the Officers Club retail store in Arbroath. During this time I was responsible for meeting targets and dealing with staff when I was the only member of management on shift. General duties included dealing with staff/customers, cash handling, replenishing stock, cashing up/till operations and dealing with any promotion or visual merchandising changes.

With the view to potentially working with children and/or young adults in the future, I arranged work experience at Braeview Academy under the supervision of the Depute Head (Raymond Perry). During my time there I supervised lessons in the social subjects department and helped individuals with the tasks they had been set. This helped me understand the general workings of the classroom, and the work and planning involved. Furthermore, I learned a lot about how important it is to understand the needs of individuals/groups to ensure all pupils get the most out of each lesson.

Prior to joining Monifieth Golf Links I worked as a caddy for Carnoustie Golf Links. I was employed here from 2007-2012 when I left to gain more regular hours at Monifieth.
