Nemiroff Holds on for an Israeli First
06/02/10

Andy Nemiroff, an experienced tournament player who moved from Canada to to concentrate more on teaching nine years ago, kept his nerve and his form to win the 54-hole Kempinski 'The Dome' Pro-Am in Antalya by a decisive three strokes and become the first Israeli winner of a PGAs of Europe-endorsed event.

Although the bone-chilling wind blowing down from the snow-covered mountains had eased, and the skies had remained blue and clear, it was still cold enough to make playing conditions on the PGA-branded Sultan course difficult for all.

This was starkly illustrated by the fact that no other player could beat his final-round score of 73 as he finished with a successful three-over-par  217.

As it turned out, Nemiroff's 69 in the second round proved to be his decisive contribution as the only sub-70 recorded out of 198 played by 66 players on the two courses...further proof of the toughness  of the challenge posed by the conditions.

After the two earlier rounds played in pro-am form, with teams including three amateurs, the pros split from their teams, who completed their three-day tournament with a Stableford on The Pasha course. Left to his own devices, Nemiroff dropped two strokes on the front nine but then parred seven of the back nine and levelled his one bogey by means of his only last-day birdie.

Nemiroff, the Head Professional at Golf Academy Savyon in Israel, has represented both Canada and Israel internationally, has played in more than 100 'junior amateur' and professional tournaments worldwide, and is three-times a Maccabiah Games Gold Medalist, as well as being the course record holder at Ga'ash Golf Club.

Germany-based Fabian Hahn claimed the runners-up cheque on six over par while Italy's Giorgio Grillo was third one shot behind him.

Andy Nemiroff Strikes a Blow for Israel
05/02/10

Israel's Andy Nemiroff fired himself into the joint lead with a bold and challenging second round 69 in The Kempinski 'The Dome' Pro-Am in Antalya, Turkey.

Nemiroff was down the field with a 75 in the first round but caught the consistent Turkish favourite Bulent Karatas whose two rounds of 72 left him level at the top with the Israeli on the combined par of 143 for The Sultan and Pasha course. Nemiroff was the golf Gold Medallist in the last Maccabiah Games.

Lying in joint third place at the start of the final round was Giorgio Grillo from Italy who shot 73-72, alongside Fabian Hahn, while Danny Kraljic of Slovenia, an experienced regular in PGAs of Europe events, was in fifth place (75-73) with Lee Spencer and Jason Evans. The latter, who had led after the first round fell back with a second round 76 to go five over the par of 143.

For final round the pros split from their amateur teams to all play the tougher, PGA-branded Sultan course while the amateur teams compete in their own stableford competition.

Jason Evans Leads Kempinski Pro-Am
04/02/10

Jason Evans, brother of last year's winner Jon Evans took a first round lead in the Kempinski 'The Dome' Pro-Am with a score of level par on a very blustery cold day in Turkey.

With northerly winds blowing from the snow covered mountains, Evans's 72 on the The Pasha course made him one better than Bulent Karatas whose similar total on the tougher PGA-branded Sultan course was one over par but good enough to share joint-second place with Giorgio Grillo and Neil Hargrave.

Jon Evans Defends Kempinski's Pro-Am'
04/02/10

Jon Evans (pictured), the Australian-born, Germany-based pro who won the Kempinski 'The Dome' Pro-Am last year, by virtually leading throughout the tournament, was seeking a repeat performance when the 2010 event teed off earlier in cold and windy conditions.

Evans, who won with a superb score of six under par for the 54 holes, staged on The PGA Sultan and The Pasha courses at Antalya, Turkey, faces a renewed challenge from a large field of PGA professionals, many of them escaping the stranglehold of one of the toughest winters in living memory.

The 2010 'Kempinski', a pro-am that grows in popularity with the players by the year, includes a lady professional from Slovakia, Renata Petrasova.
